Santos Dumont, which provides aviation technical consulting to the Aircraft Leasing Industry, has close links with the University of Limerick and the Aeronautical Engineering Programme through the large portion of its employees who are UL graduates. In recognition of this and because education and excellence are core Santos Dumont values, awards were presented at this year’s MABE graduation event to acknowledge those with extraordinary performance on the Aeronautical Engineering Programme. Students with top results in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year classes each received €500. While in the graduating class, the student who was deemed by the Santos Dumont Outstanding Achievement Award committee to have demonstrated outstanding overall achievements in their community, through extra-curricular activities, and/or through a research project, and/or innovation in aviation and/or great academic standing was awarded €1000 and a specially commissioned Santos Dumont Outstanding Achievement Award Medal. This year’s recipient was Jonathan Struthers who received his award from Mairéad Flynn, Santos Dumont Human Resources Manager, and Cathal Kilmartin, CEO Santos Dumont. Other award recipients for top results in their year were John McLaughlin (1st Year), Andrew Davies (2nd Year, currently on COOP at Boeing, Seattle, USA) and Michael Finn (3rd Year).
